Communicating is a customer service activity.

Have you ever been held hostage by some goofball who drones on and on about something that they think is fascinating? Meanwhile you're wondering if you could pretend to have heard your beeper going off in the glove compartment of your car.

Well, don't judge that goofball too harshly 'cause the odds are that at some time or other that goofball was you!

We all talk about the stuff we think is interesting. Unfortunately all too often we are a majority of one.

Effective communication is completely centered on the needs of the audience.
Tell your listener(s) any or all of the following:
Why they should listen to you
Why you think this is important
How they might apply this
What you want them to know by the time you're finished
